Kaya Kaya was established in Vancouver in 1980 and opened another store in Toronto. The stores provided Japanese porcelain from across Japan, 400 year old porcelain towns of Arita & Imari, Mino, Shigaragi, Bizen, Mashiko and traditional crafts such as lacquer, bamboo, cast iron ware & also textile items.

The store inspired Vancouverites to cultivate a taste for Japanese culture and food before Sushi culture took over in North America.

The store was selected more than once as one of  the best gift shops not only in Vancouver but in the whole  Canada and often featured in newspapers and magazines, including Wallpaper.

Kaya Kaya closed its retail operation in 2007 and now concentrates in wholesale business to hotels and restaurants.
